NEW DELHI: New found Lucknow Super Giants speedster Mayank Yadav has been the talk of the town in the ongoing 17th edition of the Indian Premier League.
Swaying away everyone with his pace and accuracy, the speed merchant, who recently clocked the fastest delivery of the season at 156.7 kmph, has everyone talking about him.
And former chief selector MSK Prasad is of the opinion that Mayank deserves a place in India’s T20 World Cup squad.
Prasad, who is now LSG’s strategic consultant, pointed out that Mayank has managed to unsettle and rattle the best in the business and the 21-year-old has been able to absorb the pressure really well at the big stage such as the IPL.
“Had it been some other format, probably I would have thought differently. I would have taken a call only after watching him for a couple of bilateral series. But IPL is in itself a mega platform where you can showcase your talent because every game involves pressure. Mayank is someone who has shown he can absorb pressure and bowl consistently at a good line,” Prasad said while talking to RevSportz.
“He has already troubled the best of the lot with his pace. If they are not being able to bring the bat down against the pace he has been generating, I think he will be handy. And looking at the Indian bowling, especially with Shami now being ruled out, the selectors must be looking for a third seamer after Bumrah and Siraj. Someone with that kind of pace and accuracy, deserves a place in the T20 World Cup squad,” Prasad added.
Mayank on Sunday suffered a side strain and left the field after bowling just one over for LSG against Gujarat Titans.
Mayank came to bowl in the fourth over but he could clock in excess of 140 kmph only twice in the over before walking off the field with the LSG physio.
He conceded 13 runs in that over and did not return to the field thereafter, even as LSG registered a 33-run win over GT.
Later, Lucknow all-rounder Krunal Pandya said the young pacer seemed alright after coming off the field.
