Govinda was a major star in the 80s and 90s, often juggling multiple film shoots in one day, sometimes working on ten projects simultaneously. His tardiness was overlooked due to his immense popularity. During one shoot in Hyderabad, Aamir Khan rushed to watch Govinda act, a moment later recalled by co-star Shakti Kapoor.
Shakti shared a memory with Bollywood Bubble, recalling a time when he and Govinda were filming a qawwali scene on stage in Hyderabad. During the shoot, Shakti noticed a short person standing in the crowd. At first, he didn’t recognize him, but soon realized it was Aamir Khan.
The veteran star continued, saying he asked Aamir what he was doing there and had a chair and tea brought for him. Aamir replied that he had come to watch how Govinda flawlessly lip-syncs and delivers long shots in one take. Aamir also expressed that he was a huge fan of Govinda.
When asked about the changes in Govinda over the years, Shakti shared that his punctuality has improved. He mentioned that while Govinda used to arrive at 9 PM for a 9 AM shift, now he comes at 8:30 AM. Shakti added that insecurity can change a person, and now Govinda is very professional, a fact the entire industry recognizes.
In the same interview, the actor expressed support for his old friend and co-star. He disagreed with those who say it’s too late for Govinda to make a comeback, mentioning that actors like Amrish Puri started their careers at 44. He emphasized that it’s never too late for any actor or artist.
Aamir has frequently expressed his admiration for Govinda. In a 2010 interview with PTI, Aamir called Govinda his favorite actor, praising his ability to make him laugh. He highlighted Govinda’s excellent comic timing and acting skills. Aamir also mentioned that he had watched Govinda’s film Sandwich 10 to 12 times.
