Yami Gautam‘s parents had an interesting response to her first film, ‘Vicky Donor,’ which starred Ayushmann Khurrana. They made their Bollywood debut in 2012 with the film ‘Vicky Donor,’ directed by Shoojit Sircar.
At the India Today Conclave South in 2018, Yami shared her experience of landing her first role. She explained, “That was the phase when I was auditioning in full swing. At that point of time, I also had the opportunity of a very conventional launch. I was absolutely on my own; every work that I was doing was my stepping stone. There was nobody there to back me.”
Yami emphasized that she never faced discouragement while pursuing her career. “Fortunately, I have never had an incident that would discourage me from working in an industry. For me, as an artist, it never mattered what language the film was in. I just wanted to do really good work, and one thing led to another.”
Interestingly, Yami only learned about the film’s subject after she was confirmed for the role. She recalled asking the casting director during her audition, “What is the film about?” The casting director simply smiled at her inquiry. It wasn’t until she received the script that she understood the film’s topic. When it came time to inform her parents about her role, Yami’s father wanted to know more about the film’s content. In response, she handed him the script. After reading it, her parents reacted positively, saying, “This is so cool.”
‘Vicky Donor’ is a romantic comedy that tackles sperm donation and infertility which is a bold subject for a debut film. The movie was well-received at the box office and is noted for its unique storyline and humour. Yami Gautam and Ayushmann Khurrana later worked together again in films like ‘Agra Ka Daabra’ (2016) and ‘Bala’ (2019).
On the work front, Yami was last seen in Article 370. She had shared the screen with Priyamani and Arun Govil in this political action thriller.
