Upasana Singh never shared the screen with Shah Rukh Khan. However, they appeared together on The Kapil Sharma Show, where she recalled how Shah Rukh charmingly refused to call her ugly, even though it was scripted.
The actress recently spoke with Siddharth Kannan about her experience working with Shah Rukh Khan. She shared that although she worked with almost every major Bollywood star, she never got to act with Shah Rukh. However, she did appear with him on The Kapil Sharma Show, where she played ‘Twinkle,’ Kappu’s neighbor and an old friend of Dr Mashoor Gulati.
Upasana fondly remembered a sweet moment when Shah Rukh refused to call her ugly, even though it was part of the script. She explained that Kapil Sharma had told Shah Rukh he needed to insult her, saying things like “She’s much older than us, her looks aren’t great, her eyes aren’t nice, she’s not pretty.” But Shah Rukh, in his usual charming way, said, “How can I tell her she’s ugly? Upasana, how can I say you look like that?” It was a really cute moment. The 1989 film Maine Pyar Kiya made Salman Khan and Bhagyashree famous, but it may surprise many to learn that Bhagyashree wasn’t the first choice for the female lead. Upasana Singh was originally selected for the role. She explained that while director Sooraj Barjatya liked her for the part, his father, Raj Kumar Barjatya, wasn’t convinced. After meeting Raj Kumar, Upasana was not called back, and her role was ultimately given to Bhagyashree.
Upasana never discussed the incident, seeing it as a missed opportunity. However, Raj Kumar Barjatya surprised everyone on the sets of Main Prem Ki Dewaani Hoon when he revealed that Upasana was originally the first choice for the role of ‘Suman.’ He admitted that they passed on her because she was taller than Salman.
