Raj Babbar was already married to Nadira when he met Smita and fell in love with her. Raj and Nadira tied the knot in 1974 and he started his career after that. Later, when he married Smita, he already had two children – Juhi and Arya Babbar. During a recent interview, Juhi Babbar has reacted to how she felt about her father’s second marriage. She revealed that she was very sensitive about it even at that young age.
In a recent interview with Lehren, Juhi Babbar Soni (she’s married to Anup Soni) shared, “My father shared about his marriage with Smita ji when I was barely seven, and he spoke to me and he explained it to me.” She further spoke about her memories with Smita Patil and said, “Shayad issliye aaj bhi meri joh memories hai Smita ji ko lekar woh bohot alag hai. Sirf memories, main apni baat nahi karungi. Mujhe har ek incident yaad hai, she has gone out of her way to do things for me and my brother. She had it in her mind that we are his children. Kabhi bahar gayi hai toh kuch laa rahi hai, agar hum ghar pe gaye hai, toh woh kuch accha hamare pasand ka khaana rakh rahi hai. (I have some great memories with her. She has gone out of her way for us. If she has gone out, she has brought things for us, if we went to her house, she made things which we liked). Those memories are very nice, they are not too many memories unfortunately.
Juhi added, “As a child, I knew that this is the lady that my father wants to be with. Woh unko apni beewi ka darja de rahe hai aur that lady was also making such an effort towards my brother and me. But I also knew that this is disturbing the unit that used to be and that my mother is unhappy about it. I don’t want to use the word sensitive, but I understood that I am feeling happy about this and aunty is being so nice to me but I probably shouldn’t share this with my mother kyunki shayad unko takleef ho.”
Juhi also reveals how her mother felt and her equation with Smita. “Mamma was very respectful always towards Smita ji. So, it wasn’t a bad atmosphere. Shuru mein kuch cheezein hoti hai husband wife mein, as children we have some bad memories. But later, they handled very beautifully.”
