Dara Singh left a lasting legacy as Hanuman in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan. Recently, his son, actor Vindu Dara Singh, shared his experience of portraying the same character in the TV show Jai Veer Hanuman and live performances.
Vindu shared that although his father was always supportive of his children’s goals, he had strict rules for playing Hanuman. When Dara Singh found out that Vindu would be portraying the deity on TV, he asked his son to follow certain guidelines, including giving up non-vegetarian food.
In an interview with YouTube channel Just Baat, Vindu shared that his father told him playing Hanuman was a significant responsibility with strict rules. He advised Vindu to bathe, pray, and avoid non-vegetarian food on the days he portrayed the character. Dara Singh also emphasized the importance of having pure thoughts and approaching the role with sincerity. He warned that if these guidelines weren’t followed, Hanuman would punish him in a way he would never forget.
Vindu also shared his personal experiences of playing Hanuman, describing how the costume and dialogues filled him with energy and strength. He noted that this powerful connection was not just his own, as his father had felt the same way while portraying the divine character.
The actor fondly shared a story about Dara Singh, highlighting the deep impact the role had on his father. He mentioned that even years after Ramayan ended, Dara Singh would sometimes recite Hanuman’s dialogues in his sleep. Vindu recalled how his mother would wake him up, joking, “The show ended 10 years ago!”
