Bhajan Singh Rana, an auto-rickshaw driver from Uttarakhand who usually operates at night, has opened up about how he rushed Saif Ali Khan to the hospital after a stabbing incident at the actor’s Bandra residence in the early hours of Thursday.
Speaking to ETimes, Rana shared details of the incident and expressed his happiness at being able to save someone’s life.
Saif Ali Khan Health Update
“Nobody called me, but I could hear the loud sound of a rickshaw, and a lady was coming toward my rickshaw. She told me, ‘Maar laga hai, hospital jaana hai’ (He’s injured, we need to go to the hospital).”
Rana admitted he did not recognize Saif initially and was unaware of his celebrity status. “I wasn’t aware that he was an actor, and I didn’t bother about that. I just saw a man bleeding and wanted to take him to the hospital,” he explained.
Describing the scene, Rana mentioned that a young child, about 7-8 years old, and another man were present along with Saif. On reaching the hospital, the injured actor requested immediate medical assistance, saying, “Main Saif Ali Khan hoon. Mera jaldi se treatment chalu karo” (I am Saif Ali Khan. Start my treatment quickly).
Despite not being questioned by the police yet, Rana feels content with his actions. “I feel good that I have saved someone’s life and was able to be of help,” he said, adding that that the actor didn’t speak much as he was in severe pain.
When asked if he would meet Saif again, Rana said, “If Saif wishes to meet me, I will definitely meet him. If he wishes to give me a gift, agar woh unki khushi wali baat hai (if that is what makes him happy), how can I say no to him?”
Saif Ali Khan, who sustained multiple stab wounds in the attack, underwent surgery at Lilavati Hospital and is currently recovering. According to the doctors, Saif sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a knife lodged in his spine, and surgery was performed to remove a 2.5-inch-long blade from the actor’s spine and repair his leaking spinal fluid.
Saif was attacked by an intruder in his 11th-floor Bandra flat in the early hours of Thursday. The incident occurred when the intruder allegedly confronted the actor’s maid at his residence. As Saif attempted to intervene, the situation escalated into a violent altercation, resulting in the actor sustaining several stab wounds.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured on Friday that the police have gathered significant clues in the stabbing case of Saif Ali Khan and will soon apprehend the culprit, as per PTI. Speaking to the media in Nagpur, Fadnavis, who also oversees the home portfolio, stated, “Police investigation is going on….they have got many clues and I feel the police will very soon zero in (on the culprit).”
