In an interview with Radio channel 92.5, hosted by Bhawna Somaaiya, Randhir credited his estranged wife, former actress Babita, as the driving force behind his daughters’ Bollywood careers.
Expressing pride in his daughters’ accomplishments, Randhir acknowledged Babita’s pivotal role in nurturing their talents, admitting his own lack of support. He recounted, “When they were very young, I never imagined they would become such esteemed artists. I echoed to them what my father (Raj Kapoor) told me – pursue your passion wholeheartedly. If this profession were undesirable, we wouldn’t be part of it ourselves. If you choose this path, strive to excel.” Randhir lauded Karisma and Kareena for their relentless dedication and triumphs, achieved without his assistance.
Self-reflectively, Randhir labeled himself a “bad father,” attributing his detachment to being somewhat “bawla” (mad) and not taking his career seriously, particularly as he aged. “In that sense, I have not been the best father,” he confessed. “But I am a bit eccentric; everyone knows I am a bit mad. I don’t have the drive to work extensively anymore. I have earned my livelihood, whereas my children now surpass my earnings. I am content; we have all our needs met. Why should I exhaust myself at this age?” he mused, highlighting his shift in priorities towards a more relaxed pace of life.
Randhir Kapoor and Babita Kapoor have been estranged for years, but have never formally divorced and remain friends, always appearing together at the family’s good and bad times. Last years, rumors were rife that the two have started living together again, but there was no confirmation of the same by them.
