In a complete departure from her roles in ‘Guddi’ and ‘Upahar,’ Jaya Bachchan played a few modern roles in films such as ‘Jawaani Deewani,’ ‘Dil Deewana,’ ‘Samadhi,’ and ‘Abhi Toh Jee Le.’ While ‘Jawaani Deewani’ became a hit, others didn’t impress much.
According to the film historian, the actress had a soft image on screen in films such as ‘Zanjeer,’ ‘Abhimaan,’ ‘Bansi Birju,’ and ‘Bawarchi.’ People accepted her in traditional roles but not so much in modern roles except for ‘Jawaani Deewani.’ If you watch ‘Jawaani Deewani’ today, you’ll notice that she seems to be a misfit. She was not accepted in modern roles in her first innings as an actor. She played traditional roles in ‘Parichay,’ ‘Naukar,’ and ‘Koshish.’ ‘Dil Deewana’ was a complete washout. ‘Abhi Toh Jee Le’ didn’t release. ‘Samadhi’ is known as a Dharmendra-Asha Parekh film. Her film ‘Piya Ka Ghar’ was a remake of the Marathi film ‘Mumbaicha Jaawai.’
