Shaan has been one singer in Bollywood who has never been afraid to share his thoughts in interviews and public appearances. In a recent conversation, he discussed the issue of singers and artists using substances to boost their creativity. He also urged young artists to steer clear of this, likening them to athletes who rely on natural talent and hard work.
During his appearance on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Shaan shared that he understands the struggles associated with using substances, emphasizing that they should never be a solution to depression or a means to gain an advantage. He advised against using them professionally, stressing that relying on anything as a crutch is not a healthy approach.
Shaan pointed out that, in the long run, relying on substances may create a false sense of help, ultimately damaging one’s brain cells. He cautioned young artists that this dependency isn’t just harmful over time; it can also hinder their ability to think clearly without them, leading to a significant handicap. He emphasized the importance of considering their health and questioned the rationale behind such choices.
The singer likened creatives to athletes, noting that just as athletes aren’t allowed to compete while on drugs, musicians should also avoid substances. He encouraged artists to rely on their own talent and abilities instead of seeking shortcuts, questioning the need to resort to such measures before a performance.
The singer reminisced about his experience with bhaang during Holi, noting how it flooded his mind with vivid ideas, but he stressed that this wasn’t a healthy approach. He also recalled singing while under the influence of alcohol, saying that one drink can enhance performance, while two drinks elevate the emotional depth of the singing. However, he cautioned against excessive drinking, humorously stating that after four drinks, “only you are singing; no one is listening.” He concluded by emphasizing that using substances for creative expression should not become a regular practice.
