‘Jigra’ headlined by Alia Bhatt, and directed by Vasan Bala, was one of the movies that created a buzz right from the start. However, when it finally made it to the theatres, it failed to live up to the expectations. With so much going around the movie, be it the allegations by Divya Khosla, the word war between her and filmmaker Karan Johar, or the facade around the casting, nothing has been able to pull the audience to the theatre. Despite the mixed reviews, the movie had a decent opening but since then it has only seen a drop.
The festive season also didn’t help the movie keep the cash register ringing at the box office. On day 15, which was the second Friday, the movie managed to mint only Rs.40 Lakh, according to the early estimates of Sacnilk. This makes the total of the movie Rs. 29.70 cr so far. The film has yet not been able to touch the Rs.30 crore mark.
On the other hand, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video,’ featuring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri in the lead, which was released at the same time as ‘Jigra,’ made Rs 65 Lakh on its 15th day, leading to a total collection to Rs 37.80 crore.
As aforementioned, despite the hype created around it, ‘Jigra’ failed to impress the audience and it can be seen in the box office numbers so far. This action-packed emotional drama perhaps would be Alia Bhatt’s lowest-grossing movie in a while. According to the current trends, it appears that the movie might even struggle to collect a lifetime of Rs. 35 crore.
Up ahead, with movies like ‘Bhool Bhuliyaan 3’ and ‘Singham Again’ set for a Diwali release, it would not be easier for ‘Jigra’ to keep a grip at the box office.
