Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan recently opened up about his career journey, candidly discussing his position within the industry and his realistic approach to taking on big-budget action films.
Talking to Instant Bollywood, Varun shared that his box-office performances, while commendable, haven’t yet reached the level necessary to justify the large budgets that mega-action films demand.
Recalling the exchange, Varun admitted, “I’m very realistic about the position I am in.” During the pandemic, Varun asked Chopra why he hadn’t yet cast him in one of his high-stakes action movies. Chopra explained that Varun’s box-office recovery, although substantial, isn’t at the level required for blockbuster action films, given their massive budgets. Following their conversation, Varun acknowledged that while he has successfully led various projects, he would need to further establish his box-office standing to secure high-budget action films.
This moment of introspection reveals Varun’s grounded perspective, as he emphasized the need for films to balance budget and box-office viability, especially in the action genre. Reflecting on his career path, Varun said, “I don’t think I was able to hit that figure with my kind of recovery in films as yet,” noting that his impact would suit best in a mid-to-large-scale production that aligns with his current audience pull.
As Varun gears up for his upcoming project, ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny‘, alongside Samantha Ruth Prabhu, his focus remains on evolving within his craft. Created by Raj & DK, ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ starts streaming on OTT from November 7 onwards and the expectations are high.
