Bollywood director and producer Karan Johar celebrated the 12th anniversary of his hit film Student of the Year by sharing a special throwback on Instagram. On Sunday, Karan re-shared a Reel featuring a deleted scene from the 2012 film, which starred now-established stars Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra in their debut roles.
The clip showed Alia’s character approaching Varun’s character, asking him to show some grief for Sidharth’s character’s grandmother. Humorously, Varun’s character responds by reminding her that the grandmother is still alive, leading to a lighthearted moment as both Varun and Sidharth’s characters share a laugh over Alia’s antics. The scene unfolds just before the iconic song ‘Ishq Wala Love.’
‘Student of the Year’, directed by Karan Johar, was a teen sports romantic comedy that became a major commercial success, firmly establishing Alia, Varun, and Sidharth as Bollywood’s new generation of stars. The film featured a supporting cast including the late Rishi Kapoor, Sana Saeed, Ronit Roy, and Farida Jalal, with music composed by the hit duo Vishal-Shekhar.
Meanwhile, Karan Johar recently found himself in a public spat with actress-director Divya Khosla Kumar. The controversy arose after Divya accused Karan’s protégé Alia Bhatt of allegedly buying tickets for her movie Jigra, which is produced by Karan’s Dharma Productions. The two took subtle digs at each other on social media, with Karan posting, “Silence is the best speech you will ever give to fools,” while Divya countered with, “Truth will always offend fools opposed to it.”
