Veteran actress Vijaylaxmi Singh, who has lately been seen playing the motherly character for Triptii Dimri in the romantic-comedy ‘Bad Newz’, spoke with Hindustan Times about her experience working with co-stars Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Amy Virk and shared her sentiments about the trolls surrounding the song ‘Jaanam’ from the movie.
Reflecting on her experience on set, Vijaylaxmi said her co-stars were “grounding and humble”. “Vicky is very chivalrous,” she said in response to a query, adding that there was a joyful and productive atmosphere throughout the shoot. She said Vicky, Amy, and Triptii did not make a show of their superstar status. Instead, they came with a warm smile greeting everyone each day. Not-so-nice words came neither from Karan Johar, although nice words did come from him too, speaking to him after the premiere was polite and respectful.
Talking about the brouhaha over the song “Jaanam”, which started the trolling of Vicky and Triptii, Vijaylaxmi said actors often got judged without considering how a film project is a collaborative effort. “Actors are often under intense scrutiny because of the nature of their work,” she remarked, aware of the challenges they face. She defended the song, described it as “a lovely song” and touted her co-stars’ performances.
“When it comes to this song, there have been bolder film and media projects, but I like the song and think the actors have done a great job. I don’t find anything problematic about it; it’s a lovely song. People may do whatever they want, but don’t spare anyone else,” she said.
Vijaylaxmi praised the themes portrayed in Bad Newz. She said these themes are relevant and empowering. She talks about the messages that women’s ambition, independence and that these choices should be taken for them preferably as owned by the females. Vijaylaxmi further adds that the male protagonists, Vicky and Amy, refuse to see their situation as taboo.
