Bollywood actor Chunky Pandey recently opened up about the highs and lows of his career, his marriage to Bhavana Pandey, and an unexpected revelation about their daughter Ananya Panday’s roots. Speaking to Brut, Chunky reflected on his journey, marked by stardom, setbacks, and resilience.
After rising to fame in the late 1980s with multiple hits, Chunky’s career took a downturn with the emergence of actors like Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. By the early 1990s, he found himself struggling for work in Bollywood. To keep his career afloat, Chunky ventured into Bangladeshi cinema, where he enjoyed a successful five-year run. “After giving all these big hits, I suddenly found myself without work. I decided to go and work in Bangladesh, and I had a good run there,” he shared.
During this phase, Chunky married Bhavana Pandey on January 17, 1998, in what he described as one of the lowest points in his career. Reflecting on their unconventional honeymoon, he revealed, “I took Bhavana for half a honeymoon to Bangladesh because I had to complete a film. I even feel Ananya was conceived in Bangladesh.”
Chunky credited Bhavana for urging him to return to Bollywood, reminding him to rebuild his career at home. Their partnership proved pivotal as he navigated the challenges of fatherhood and professional struggles. He described the birth of his daughters as a turning point, calling it a “new beginning” in his life.
The couple’s love story began at a disco, where Chunky memorized Bhavana’s phone number to stay connected despite the geographical distance, he in Mumbai and she in Delhi. Overcoming hurdles, their relationship flourished, symbolizing strength during trying times.
