Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, known for recording over 50,000 songs in multiple languages, was initially hesitant to appear on screen. However, filmmaker Boney Kapoor convinced her to sing ‘Ek Tu Hi Bharosa‘ for his 2000 film Pukar, starring Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. Boney shared how he successfully persuaded her in a recent interview.
In an interview with O2 India, Boney shared that the film’s director, Rajkumar Santoshi, had a specific request for the song in Pukar. He wanted either Mother Teresa or Lata Mangeshkar to sing it due to the song’s pious nature. Since Mother Teresa had already passed away, Lata Mangeshkar was the only choice left.
The producer further recalled how he put in all his effort to convince Lata Mangeshkar to sing the prayer song for Pukar. He shared that he showed her the film footage they had shot up to that point, expressing his belief that only she could truly do justice to the song.Boney shared that convincing Lata Mangeshkar to sing for Pukar took months of persistence. He met her daily, eventually earning her consent. Despite not feeling well at the time, she agreed to travel to Hyderabad and record the song. Boney feels privileged to be the filmmaker who brought Lata Mangeshkar on screen.
