The ‘Squid Game’ franchise took over the internet right after its release. When the series made its debut, people couldn’t wait for season 2, with the sequel out, there was chatter about the threequel and now amid all this, reports are doing the rounds that ‘Squid Game’ is set to have a spin-off.
The ‘House Of Cards’ and ‘Mindhunter’ fame director David Fincher, reportedly is working on the project, dubbed ‘Squid Game America.’
According to The Wrap, the creator of the series Hwang Dong-hyuk has been discussing the American adaptation. “I know Netflix has a plan. They are not going to throw this idea away… Maybe I’ll be in one of those projects as an advisor or co-creator. Who knows? But Season 3 is not going to be the end of the ‘Squid Game’ universe,” said Hwang.
Now a few details about the American version are available, which indicate a spin-off.
Further, the lead star Lee Jae is excited about Fincher’s involvement. He said he is looking forward to it. He has high expectations from the series and can’t wait.
The news of the spin-off follows the recent release of Season 2 of ‘Squid Game’ with the confirmation of a third season. Reportedly, the series also spawned a reality competition show, ‘Squid Game: The Challenge,’ in 2023.
Meanwhile, Netflix reportedly accidentally shared the teaser of ‘Squid Game’ Season 3 on its Korean YouTube channel. The teaser was removed quickly, but it confirmed the threequel will be released in 2025.
Speaking of the teaser, it featured Young-hee, the robot from the “Red Light, Green Light” game, alongside a new robot, Chul-soo, and the video was titled “Squid Game Season 3 2025 Release.”
