The makers of Game Changer, starring Ram Charan, have come under fire for allegedly inflating the film’s Day 1 box office collections.
The Ram Charan and Kiara Advani starrer hit the top trends on social media with fans celebrating the film’s release. Early box office reports indicated that the film earned an estimated Rs 80.1 crore worldwide on its opening day. According to Sacnilk, the film’s India net collection on Day 1 was Rs 51 crore, with gross domestic collections amounting to Rs 61 crore. What Would Be The Box Office Fate of ‘Game Changer’ ?
Meanwhile, the movie’s official social media page claimed a staggering Rs 186 crore in global earnings, sparking criticism and ridicule.
The controversy began when Game Changer’s official page shared a poster on Saturday featuring Ram Charan in a high-octane action sequence. The caption read, “The king’s arrival is setting the box office ablaze. #GameChanger takes a blockbuster opening at the BOX OFFICE. BlockbusterGameChanger GROSSES 186 CRORES WORLDWIDE on Day 1.”
The stark difference between the reported figures and the official claim led to a swift backlash online. Trade analysts accused the producers of inflating the numbers by more than Rs 100 crore—a tactic deemed “unprecedented” in Indian cinema.
“Boosting fan excitement with exaggerated numbers is a common tactic for all heroes and producers. But today’s Game Changer numbers (Rs 186 crores gross on the first day) are undeniably over-the-top fake!” tweeted one analyst.
Another remarked, “Boosting collections by 10 to 15% on posters had become common nowadays irrespective of stars!! But the Game Changer team shocked everyone with Rs 100 crore+ fake on the poster, more than double of original figures!!”
A third critic wrote, “1st WW Estimates – Rs 85 Cr Worldwide. It’s unfortunate that instead of the standard 10% boost, makers have gone with Rs 100 Cr+ fake. SHAME! This kind of faking is UNPRECEDENTED in the history of Indian Cinema!”
Fans and industry insiders alike have expressed disappointment over the controversy, with some calling for greater transparency in reporting box office figures.
Despite the uproar, Game Changer continues to draw audiences, with many lauding Ram Charan’s performance. The film is expected to score an impressive Rs 200 crore collection in its debut weekend at the domestic box office.
