Actor Jayam Ravi, known by this stage name for over 20 years, has decided to revert to his birth name, Ravi Mohan, marking a significant change in his professional identity. The name Jayam Ravi was a tribute to his debut film ‘Jayam’ in 2003, which established him as a prominent figure in the Tamil film industry. As I reflect on my journey, I am filled with immense gratitude for the opportunities, love, and support that cinema and all of you have given me. I look forward to extending my support to the industry that gave me life, love, and purpose.”
Ravi clarified that, from now on, he would like to be referred to as Ravi or Ravi Mohan. Explaining this choice, he wrote: “A name that deeply resonates with my personal and professional aspirations. As I move into this new chapter, aligning my identity with my vision and values, I kindly request everyone to address me by this name and no longer as Jayam Ravi.”
Additionally, Ravi unveiled plans for his own production company, Ravi Mohan Studios. The actor described it as “a production house dedicated to discovering and championing compelling narratives that inspire, captivate, and resonate with audiences worldwide.” As part of this rebranding, all existing Jayam Ravi fan clubs will be transitioned into the Ravi Mohan Fans Foundation, an organisation focused on providing assistance to those in need.
In 2024, he confirmed his separation from his wife, Aarti, with whom he shares two sons, Aarav and Ayaan. The couple, who were married in 2009, have reportedly filed for divorce. Aarti previously shared her surprise at the public statement made by the actor about their separation.
Ravi, last seen in the films ‘Siren’ and ‘Brother’ in 2024, is gearing up for the release of his next project, ‘Kadhalika Neramillai.’ The film is slated to hit theatres on January 14, aligning with the festive Pongal season.
