Varun Dhawan‘s action-packed film Baby John was expected to be a big Christmas hit but didn’t do well at the box office. Jackie Shroff, who played the villain, shared his thoughts on the film’s failure and admitted feeling bad for the producers.
In an exclusive chat with India Today Digital, the actor reflected on how a film’s box office performance impacts him. He noted that while actors hope their work is appreciated, the bigger concern is for the producers who invest heavily in these projects and face losses when the films don’t perform well.
When asked if a film’s failure still affects him after so many years in the industry, Jackie Shroff shared that the disappointment isn’t personal but for the producers. While actors give their best to their roles, he emphasized feeling more concerned for those who invest their resources into the project.
With a budget exceeding Rs 180 crore, Baby John opened to Rs 11.25 crore at the box office. However, its earnings dropped sharply to Rs 4.75 crore on the second day. According to a Sacnilk report, daily collections have now fallen below Rs 1 crore, and the film is struggling to reach the Rs 40 crore mark domestically.
In an rarlier interview with Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal Yadav discussed Baby John’s failure and Varun Dhawan’s response. He attributed the film’s poor performance to it being a remake, noting that audiences had already seen Vijay’s version. Praising Varun’s hard work and willingness to take risks, he emphasized that such efforts deserve appreciation.
Baby John is the Hindi remake of Thalapathy Vijay‘s Tamil film Theri. The movie also features Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi in important roles.
