‘Padmaavat‘ saw Deepika Padukone play Rani Padmaavati. The film starred Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor as well. Made by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, this one is considered one of the most notable performances of Deepika and Ranveer. However, in a recent interview, Kangana Ranaut has said that she found DP’s role in the movie irrelevant. The actress admits that’s why she did not do it when she was offered the role.
Kangana Ranaut said during a chat with Ajeet Bharti, “Mujhe Padmaavat bhi offer hui thi.

Toh maine unse (director Sanjay Leela Bhansali) pucha tha ‘sir aapki jo script hai, wo mujhe mil jayegi to achha hai.’ Unhone kaha ‘main kabhi script nahi deta.’ Maine kaha ‘toh sir heroine ka role kya hai?’ Kehte hain ‘heroine ka role sirf itna hai wo usko pehli baar mirror mein dekhta hai, aur wo taiyaar ho rahi rehti hai.’ (I was also offered Padmaavat. I asked him, ‘Sir, can I get the script for the film?’ He said, ‘I never give the script.’ I asked, ‘Then what is the heroine’s role?’ He said, ‘The heroine’s role is just this – the hero sees her for the first time in a mirror while she’s getting ready’.”
The ‘Queen’ actress further added, “Aur jab maine film dekhi, wo saari film mein taiyaar hi ho rahi hoti hai. And he was right. Wo sirf taiyaar ho rahi hoti hai. Only getting ready. I don’t want to take these names and bring attention to individuals but I want to ask you which director I should work with? (And when I watched the film, she is just getting ready throughout the entire film. And he was right. She’s only getting ready. So, I don’t want to name names or bring attention to specific individuals, but I want to ask you, which director should I work with?)”
Kangana’s latest film ‘Emergency’ also sees her as a director, apart from the fact that she plays the role of Indira Gandhi.
