Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has urged the public to refrain from creating confusion based on speculations regarding the ongoing investigation into the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. Addressing reporters, Fadnavis assured that the police are conducting a thorough investigation and have identified all possible leads in the case.
CM Fadnavis stated, “I will ask all not to create confusion based on speculative things and things which are not told by police. Police are doing a proper investigation, they have almost everything”.
Fadnavis also mentioned that he would instruct the Mumbai Commissioner of Police (CP) to hold a press conference soon to provide all the details related to the case. “I’ll ask Mumbai CP to address the media, maybe today or tomorrow, to convey the details of the case,” he added.
Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an intruder at his Mumbai residence on the early morning of January 16. Around 2 a.m., the actor heard noises and discovered that one of his female employees was being attacked in his son Jeh’s room. Saif intervened, leading to a confrontation with the attacker, during which both Saif and the female employee were injured. The actor was stabbed six times by the assailant and was promptly rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, the police quickly took action and arrested the alleged attacker, Shariful Islam, a 30-year-old man.
Police further revealed that Islam, who had changed his name to Vijay Das after entering India, was arrested three days after the violent attack. He was apprehended from the Labour Camp area in the neighboring Thane city.
The police official told the news agency PTI.“After he was nabbed by police, Fakir told police that his name was Vijay Das and he was a resident of Kolkata. He, however, failed to provide any document to support his claim. He disclosed his true name and Bangladeshi nationality during interrogation.”
“He called his brother and asked him to send his school leaving certificate. His brother sent it (the certificate) on Fakir’s mobile phone. This document is strong evidence to prove he is a Bangladeshi national.”
The case is currently being investigated. On January 19, the Bandra court sent the accused to police custody for five days, until January 24.
During a press conference on January 19, police disclosed that the assailant had broken into Saif Ali Khan’s home in the Satguru Sharan building in Bandra early on January 16, with the intent to rob. They also revealed that the accused had been working as housekeeping staff at Ricky’s bar in Thane and had used various aliases to evade detection.
