The trend of re-releasing classic Bollywood films continues to gain momentum in 2025. After successful re-releases of films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Sanam Teri Kasam, the makers of Andaz Apna Apna recently announced that the iconic comedy will return to cinemas in April. Now, in an exciting development, it has been revealed that Rajkumar Santoshi’s 1996 action film Ghatak, starring Sunny Deol, is also set to make a comeback on the big screen.
According to a report from Bollywood Hungama, a source shared that Ghatak was a major box office success when it was first released in 1996 and still holds a special place in fans’ hearts. The film is loved for its intense action, emotional storyline, and powerful performances, especially from Sunny Deol.
The insider further explained that following Sunny Deol’s massive success with Gadar 2 (2023), there has been an increased demand to see more of the actor on the big screen. This renewed interest in his past work led to the decision to bring Ghatak back to theaters.
Currently, the makers are eyeing February 28 as the tentative release date for Ghatak. However, the final date may change based on further discussions. The source also revealed that Sunny Deol himself is thrilled about the re-release and is expected to actively promote the film.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Ghatak starred Meenakshi Seshadri, Amrish Puri, and Danny Denzongpa in key roles. The film tells the story of a young man who travels from Banaras to Mumbai with his ailing father, hoping to get him treated. He stays with his uncle and falls in love with a woman. However, the colony where he resides is controlled by a ruthless gangster, leading to a battle between good and evil. The film is also remembered for the popular song Koi Jaye To Le Aaye, featuring Mamta Kulkarni.
After the re-release of Ghatak, Sunny Deol will shift focus to his next big project, Jaat. The film is set to hit theaters on April 10, 2025, and has already generated a lot of excitement among its fans.
With audiences showing renewed enthusiasm for classic Bollywood films, the re-release of Ghatak is expected to be a nostalgic treat for movie lovers, giving them a chance to relive the action-packed drama on the big screen once again.
