Prateik Babbar and Priya Banerjee exchanged vows in an intimate wedding ceremony on Valentine’s Day, choosing to celebrate their love in a deeply personal way. The couple opted for a ‘ghar ki shaadi,’ tying the knot in the very house that Prateik’s late mother, legendary actress Smita Patil, had bought in Bandra, Mumbai.
Speaking to Vogue India, Prateik shared the emotional significance of their wedding venue. “We desired a ‘ghar ki shaadi,’ and getting married to the love of my life here — the first house that my mom bought and my home — was the best way to honour her in spirit.”
The celebrations were heartfelt and private, attended only by their closest family and friends. The pre-wedding rituals, including haldi and mehendi, were followed by a traditional ceremony. Videos shared by Priya on her Instagram Stories captured the emotional moments, including Prateik welling up upon seeing his bride and the couple dancing romantically to Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love.
For their wedding attire, Prateik and Priya chose ethereal ensembles by designer Tarun Tahiliani, complemented by jewelry from Khurana Jewellery House.
Despite the joyous occasion, the wedding made headlines for the absence of the Babbar family. Prateik’s father, veteran actor Raj Babbar, and his half-siblings, Aarya Babbar and Juhi Babbar, were not invited.
In a conversation with ETimes, Aarya Babbar expressed his surprise, saying, “Nobody from the Babbar family was invited—not even my father.” He hinted at external influence, adding, “I presume someone has overpowered his brain too much. He is not wanting to connect with anyone from this side of the family.”
While Aarya acknowledged that Prateik might have his reasons for not inviting his stepmother, Nadira Babbar, he believed their father should have been included. However, he maintained a compassionate stance, saying, “I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.”
Prateik Babbar’s family dynamics have long been a topic of discussion. He is the son of Raj Babbar and Smita Patil, whose relationship was controversial as Raj was already married to Nadira Babbar at the time. Tragically, Smita passed away due to childbirth complications just days after Prateik was born in 1986. While Raj Babbar later reconciled with Nadira and raised their children, Aarya and Juhi, Prateik was brought up by his maternal grandparents.
This marks Prateik’s second marriage, following his previous union with Sanya Sagar. As he embarks on a new chapter with Priya Banerjee, the actor continues to cherish his mother’s memory while embracing a future filled with love.
