Rashmika Mandanna, one of the brightest stars in Indian cinema currently, nearly faced a ban from her home industry, the Kannada film industry. Despite her soaring popularity, the actress found herself embroiled in controversy, risking her career in the place where her cinematic journey began.
Hailed from Karnataka’s Kodagu district, Rashmika dreamt of acting from a young age.After her education, she ventured into modelling, catching the eye of director Rishab Shetty. He cast her in the blockbuster hit ‘Kirik Party’, marking her debut and cast alongside Rakshit Shetty.
Later, Rashmika’s career blossomed as she ventured into Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil cinema, delivering numerous box-office hits. However, her personal life grabbed headlines when she ended her engagement with co-actor Rakshit Shetty in September 2018 after a year when they got engaged in July 2017. Despite maintaining a friendly relationship, the breakup stirred controversy.In 2022, during a promotional interview for her Hindi debut ‘Goodbye’, Rashmika faced criticism for not mentioning the production house, Paramvah Studios, co-founded by Rakshit Shetty. Kannada film industry fans accused her of being ingratitude towards the film which through her popularity soared in the early days of her career, fueling speculations of a ban.
Further controversy erupted when she mentioned not watching Rishab Shetty’s blockbuster film ‘Kantara’. Although Rashmika clarified, stating that she was asked the question just within 2-3 days of the release and she later watched and appreciated the film with the maker, who mutually responded to her with a “Thank you”.
