Talking to PTI, Neena Gupta shared that progressive women are often presented as vamps or as negative characters onscreen. She also cited her television show ‘Khandaan’ as an example, where she played the role of a progressive woman, however, it was conceived as a negative character. “Bold characters don’t work here. In movies, we see them as sati savitri,” Neena Gupta said.
Neena Gupta further spoke about how the characters in the web series are inspired by real life, and that one can find women like Manju Devi around us. She stated that the character she plays is someone very satisfied with her household things, and has no ambition. “Pradhan is working on her behalf, people liked it and that’s how women in India do it in rural or urban places. So, women relate to me, to Manju devi,” she added.
Ankit Gupta: The show will focus on highlighting the farmers’ issues
ETimes reviewed the third season and wrote, “The third season of ‘Panchayat’ remains a riveting and gripping watch, delivering entertainment in abundance. Just when viewers wondered if the makers could pull off another surprise, they certainly did. Despite lacking a central plot, the series compensates with numerous parallel events that keep you invested. This season shifts the spotlight to other characters, sidelining Jitendra Kumar’s role, with Bhushan, his wife Kranti Devi, Prahlad, Binod, Chandrakant Singh, the local MLA, taking center stage. The setting and milieu of ‘Panchayat’ still have plenty of charm, and the season ends on a cliffhanger, hinting at another season.”
