Despite their initial commitment to the spy thriller, rumours are rife that their return to the MCU is set to have a significant impact on the web series. The Russo brothers, who have been instrumental in shaping the MCU, with blockbusters like ‘Avengers: Endgame’, were also set to play a key role in ‘Citadel’ season 2, with Joe Russo initially committed to directing all episodes. However, according to a report by Puck, their MCU comeback has led to a shift in priorities.
Joe’s involvement in ‘Citadel’ has now been scaled back, with him directing only three or four episodes, though the total number of episodes for the season remains unclear.
This development comes after reports revealed that the brothers are getting a huge $80 million paycheque to direct the Avengers films, while also producing it. While their return has already generated a significant amount of buzz, the performance of Citadel season 1 has reportedly influenced their decision to prioritise their Marvel projects which have booked 1 May 2026 and 7 May 2027 as their release dates, while there is no deadline for the streaming show.
Meanwhile, it also remains unclear if the brothers have advanced their shoot schedule, considering that Priyanka announced today that the show is next on her schedule, after wrapping up work on ‘The Bluff’.
