Dimple Kapadia recently spoke about her celebrity life in the world of social media. At 67 and still not bothered by the weight that most of her peers put upon having a strong presence on the web.
In an interview with Vogue India, she admitted that she indeed loves mindlessly browsing Instagram but has little interest in being highly manipulative about managing accounts aggressively or being part of social media “rat race”. She would be required to change in terms of accepting social media, since she would join the campaign of friends that encompasses personalities like Zeenat Aman and Jackie Shroff.
As other friends were embracing Instagram as a new outlet, Kapadia’s favourite form of entertainment is something else entirely: mobile gaming. She said she loves playing games on her phone, adding that ‘Empires & Puzzles: Dragon Dawn’ is one of her favorite games. This pastime brings her happiness in the personal space she has – even in her Juhu apartment, which she called a sanctuary.
Dimple, who debuted in Bollywood at 16 with Bobby, takes her fame seriously. She appreciates being accepted for who she is but doesn’t see herself as a star or icon. She finds celebrity life daunting, feeling like she’s constantly under scrutiny and judged every moment of the day.
She, being a woman of a generation where social media seems to command everything about a celebrity’s life, remains distinct. Dimple Kapadia preferred living life as she would, free from the judgments of public opinion and the pressures of digital validation. She reminds everyone that living privately and in peace with one’s own self in the world of relentless fame is precious.
