It seems ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3‘s recent triumph has shown Kartik Aaryan the power of leading a successful franchise to engage audiences. This insight has influenced his approach to his upcoming projects. As per the report in Mid-Day, the actor is eager for his romantic drama, originally conceived as ‘Aashiqui 3‘ but later reworked as an independent film, to be brought back under the iconic ‘Aashiqui’ franchise. Kartik’s decision reflects his belief in the franchise model as a compelling way to connect with fans and build on the legacy of popular cinematic series.
Since the announcement of ‘Aashiqui 3’ in 2022, several developments have unfolded. Initially, Anurag Basu was set to direct the Aaryan-led love story, with Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt as producers. However, a dispute arose between the producers over the rights to the franchise. By March of this year, Bhushan Kumar revealed that he would exclusively back the project, which was rebranded as ‘Tu Aashiqui Hai’. As a result, the film was no longer considered part of the ‘Aashiqui’ franchise, marking a significant shift in the direction of the much-anticipated romantic drama.
Now, Kartik Aaryan seems to have added a new twist to the story. The report further added that the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3 has strengthened Kartik’s belief in the power of franchises. He has proposed to Bhushan Kumar that talks be initiated with Mukesh Bhatt to reclaim the ‘Aashiqui’ title. Kartik is confident that continuing the love story within the Aashiqui franchise will give it a significant boost.
Franchises have proven to be major box office successes this year, with hits like ‘Stree 2’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’, and ‘Singham Again’. Nearly every major star has a franchise film lined up—from Shah Rukh Khan with ‘Pathaan 2’ to Ranbir Kapoor backing ‘Animal Park’. Given this trend, it makes sense for Kartik Aaryan to jump on the bandwagon. Furthermore, he’s set to begin shooting for ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh 2’ soon and is also eager to work on a sequel to ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’.”
