Veteran actor Kabir Bedi recently reflected on his brief yet intense relationship with actress Parveen Babi, which ended during a difficult time in her life as she struggled with mental health issues. In an interview with Digital Commentary, Kabir shared how his efforts to help Parveen seek medical treatment eventually led to their separation.
Kabir recalled noticing Parveen Babi’s condition worsening during their time in London. He shared that he had urged her to seek treatment, but she had refused entirely. Aware that her condition might deteriorate without help, Kabir explained that this ultimately led to their separation.
Kabir revealed that it was Parveen who ended the relationship, fearing that he would force her to see a doctor. “She left me because she was afraid that I will force her to have treatment. Paranoid minds are scared of everything. She was scared that if some doctor gets to know, he might tell someone, and her career might get over. Parveen Babi left me, I didn’t leave her,” he clarified.
Addressing rumors that their breakup worsened Parveen’s mental health, Kabir denied the allegations. “The media here blamed me (for the relationship ending), that I rejected Parveen and that’s why her mental health suffered. The truth was that Parveen already had mental health problems,” he explained.

Kabir also spoke about his sorrow upon hearing of Parveen’s tragic death in 2005. “I was very upset when she died under very tragic circumstances,” he said, recalling her funeral, which he attended alongside her former partners Mahesh Bhatt and Danny Denzongpa.
Kabir and Parveen’s relationship began during a challenging phase in his life. In his autobiography Stories I Must Tell: The Emotional Life of an Actor, Kabir detailed his open marriage with Protima Bedi, which ended after she had an affair with a French man. It was during this tumultuous time that he met Parveen.
Their relationship faced strain while Kabir was in Italy filming the TV series Sandokan, and after their breakup, Parveen reportedly found solace with filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who supported her during her struggles.
