AR Rahman‘s wife, Saira Banu, has announced their separation after nearly 30 years of marriage. Saira’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, issued an official statement about the couple’s decision to part ways.
Amid this, their son Armeen has shared a post on his Instagram story requesting everyone to respect their privacy during this trying time.

His post read, ‘We kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this time. Thank you for your understanding’.
The official statement read, “After many years of marriage, Mrs Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr. AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs Saira emphasised that she has taken this decision out of pain and agony. Mrs Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time, as she navigates this difficult chapter in her life,” the statement read.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu’s marriage was arranged by his mother. In a past conversation with Simi Garewal, Rahman shared that he didn’t have time to search for a bride due to his busy work schedule. “I was 29 and told my mother, ‘find me a bride,'” he revealed.
AR Rahman’s daughter, Khatija Rahman, got married in 2022. The music composer shared a family photo from the wedding, which featured a portrait of his late mother placed near the seating area of the bride and groom.
