The Madhya Pradesh government has officially declared the film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ as tax-free in the state. The decision has been announced by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. This announcement was made during a press conference following the 17th AUAP conference held in Bhopal. CM Yadav expressed his intention to watch the film along with other lawmakers, emphasizing that the film serves to clarify historical events surrounding a significant and tragic incident in Indian history.
‘The Sabarmati Report’ is directed by Dheeraj Sarna and features Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra. The film recounts the harrowing events of February 27, 2002, when tcoach of the Sabarmati Express was set ablaze near Godhra station in Gujarat. This incident ignited widespread communal riots across Gujarat.
In his announcement, as per ABP news CM Yadav while talking to the media today stated that ‘The Sabarmati Report’ is a very good film and I am also going to watch it. He also appealed to his ministers and MPs to watch the film. Along with this, the MP CM said that we are going to make this film tax free, so that more and more people can watch this film. He also said that this is a dark chapter in our history and watching this film will help reveal the truth.
Earlier on Sunday Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised ‘The Sabarmati Report’, stating on social media that it is commendable for truths to be revealed in a manner accessible to the general public. He noted, “Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out… A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out!”
In addition to PM Modi’s praise, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also commended the film on social media, asserting “No matter how hard a powerful ecosystem tries, it cannot keep the truth hidden in darkness forever. The film #SabarmatiReport defies the ecosystem with unparalleled courage and exposes the truth behind the fateful episode to broad daylight.”
The film had a promising start at the box office but saw a decline in earnings on its first Monday, grossing approximately Rs 1.10 crore nett as per Sacnilk. By the end of its fourth day, ‘The Sabarmati Report’ had accumulated an estimated total of Rs 7.45 crore in India. Despite this dip, its performance aligns with trends seen in other recent Hindi releases.
