The much-anticipated sequel, ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, is making waves ahead of its release with record-breaking advance bookings for its opening day.
Industry experts are forecasting a historic performance at the box office for this film, directed by Sukumar and starring Allu Arjun. According to Sacnilk.com, advance bookings for the first day have already garnered an estimated Rs 62.21 crore. The breakdown includes Rs 33 crore from the Telugu markets, Rs 23.9 crore from the Hindi version, Rs 1.63 crore from Tamil, and Rs 1.74 crore from Malayalam. The film is pushing the total, including blocked seats, to Rs 77.16 crore.
Trade analysts predict Pushpa 2 could rake in over Rs 200 crore in its opening weekend, bolstered by its release on 80% of available screens across India — an unprecedented number. The film has already joined an elite club by crossing Rs 50 crore gross pre-sales for the opening day across all versions in India.
‘Pushpa 2’ has become only the second film of 2024 to achieve this milestone after the Prabbhas, Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Kalki 2898 AD’.
As of December 3, pre-sales stood at approximately Rs 50.25 crore, with Wednesday’s collections pushing expectations to surpass the Rs 100 crore milestone. This in turn, could set a new record for Indian cinema.
Elevated ticket prices, particularly in Telugu-speaking states, are also expected to significantly contribute to its earnings.
‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ is poised to redefine box office success when it hits theatres tomorrow, December 4. Trade experts and exhibitors believe the sequel will attract a footfall of over 50 to 60 lakh and a weekend number that may go beyond Rs 150 crore. The film, like many hits from the south in recent years which have broken new grounds in Hindi speaking belt, is likely to cross over Rs 60 crore on day one in the north and the crowd frenzy that its trailer launch attracted in Patna was only a glimpse of the buzz surrounding the release.
Trade expert Taran Adarsh told PTI that despite the release day on December 5 being a working one, the audience response to the film is at its peak and many will catch the movie on the first day, first show.
“The advance sales are terrific. The box office collection will be historic; it will take a fabulous earth-shattering start all over India. If all goes well, it will be the biggest opening of Hindi cinema… It’s a working day, all fingers crossed. ‘Pushpa 1’ has created a ground for ‘Pushpa 2’, the love and adulation that the film has got over the years, on OTT and TV, is immense,” Adarsh said.
Starring Allu Arjun, the sequel follows the highly successful first part, “Pushpa: The Rise,” which released in 2021. The movie will be released across the globe on December 5 with dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, and Malayalam.
The original film, directed by Sukumar, was not only a commercial success, amassing over Rs 300 crores in India, but also established a strong fan base that has only grown over the years.
