Farah Naaz, the older sister of actress Tabu and niece of Shabana Azmi, made her acting debut at 17 in Yash Chopra’s Faasle (1985), which didn’t perform well at the box office. She later starred in several hit films with stars like Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, Rishi Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor, and Aamir Khan.
In an old interview, Farah had revealed that she had resorted to self-harm during arguments with her family, not with the intention of ending her life but as a way to cope with emotional pain. She explained that the act was her way of diverting attention from the issue and expressing her hurt without directly confronting her family.
Her career hit a rough patch following two dramatic incidents in 1989. While shooting Kasam Vardi Ki with Chunky Panday, a seemingly harmless joke from him pushed her to the edge, resulting in a slap that shocked everyone. Later that year, after Rakhwala bombed at the box office, Anil Kapoor’s offhand remark—suggesting the film might have been a hit with Madhuri Dixit instead of Farah—tipped her over, prompting a fiery threat directed at him.
In 1996, Farah married Vindu Dara Singh, and they had a son, Fateh Randhawa. After six years, they divorced, and Farah later married actor Sumeet Saigal. The couple decided not to have children together.
