Squid Game Folks!
For those who can’t stop thinking about Ddakji or the mingle game, Season 3 is officially announced for release this year by the producers. Although,for those who think of binge-watching the new season, here’s a little interesting detail about the series that would enhance your watching experience.
The pink soldiers certainly stole the show with their ruthless shooting and iconic face cards. The season 2 of the series revealed more about the pink soldiers. The soldiers have masks to protect their identities. Yet, each staff had a different symbol on their mask to help with the rank of the hierarchy.
Staff who had circle symbols on their masks had the lowest hierarchy. They had to follow the orders given by others. Usually, they were the ones who did security. They were not allowed to speak until a soldier with the upper ranking spoke first. The soldiers with a rank higher than them were the ones who had the ‘triangle’ symbol. They played pivotal roles in this season by enforcing rules, whether it may be shooting the players ( players who lost the game or in ‘the secret game’ ) or taking the ‘dead’ players to the crematorium. The ones who ranked higher among them were the managers who monitored people and announced the prize money after each game. The managers wore masks with square symbols on them. They communicated with the frontman and looked after the movements of the players during the game.
Not only did these symbols symbolize the game played by children – the squid game as seen in season 1, episode 1, but they also symbolized the Korean alphabet. The circle represents the letter ‘O’, the triangle represents the letter ‘J’, and the square represents the letter ‘M’. When combined together, they spell ‘OJM’, the initials for ‘Ojingeo Geim’, the Korean name for squid game.
Squid game not only had masks for the soldiers, they also had masks for VIPs. The VIPs had masks of animals: a deer, a bull, a lion, a bear and a lion, with the host ‘The Frontman’ in his special attire. The gold masks obviously symbolize the wealth of the businessmen, with an endless supply of food, drinks, and entertainment.
The masks symbolize many messages, and the fans are eager for the next season to know what these masks will do – certainly something deadly!
