Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has given fans a glimpse of his next cinematic venture Punjab ’95, by sharing the intense first look from his upcoming film.
The actor-singer, known for his versatility, took to social media to reveal the poster with a powerful caption, “I Challenge the Darkness.”
In the image, Diljit is seen sitting on the floor in a raw and rugged avatar. Dressed in a simple kurta and turban, his bloodied and bruised face exudes both pain and resilience, hinting at an emotionally charged and intense storyline.
Prior to releasing the first-look pictures, Diljit teased fans with a pst that read, “Much awaited film is about to be released in Feb. So we had to postpone the album. Stay tuned folks.”
The much-anticipated film is a biopic on Jaswant Singh Khalra. The film was in the news last year when it faced obstacles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) which proposed 85 to 120 cuts.
One of the most contentious changes suggested by the CBFC, involved the removal of Khalra’s name from the film, as reported by Mid-day. According to the report, the removal of the protagonist’s name would not just be disrespectful to him, but also to his family.
The CBFC has also reportedly requested the makers, Honey Trehan and Ronnie Screwvala, to drop even the title Punjab ’95, which references the year Khalra disappeared. The activist vanished in September 1995, and a decade later, six Punjab police officials were convicted for his murder.
The proposed edits have sparked outrage among fans and critics alike, who view them as an erasure of the film’s authenticity and cultural significance.
Stay tuned for more updates on this upcoming venture.
