Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane‘s journey began under the mentorship of the iconic Sanjay Leela Bhansali, working as an assistant director on the renowned films ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ and ‘Devdas‘. While ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ featured Salman Khan, ‘Devdas’ showcased Shah Rukh Khan in what many consider a transformative role. In a recent interview, Motwane shared a captivating incident involving Shah Rukh, underscoring the actor’s exceptional devotion to his craft.
In a conversation with The Lallantop, Motwane recounted an incident from the shoot of ‘Devdas’ dramatic climax. The director explained that during the scene where Shah Rukh’s character dies while Aishwarya comes running to him, the actor performed a magnificent trick.
While lying under a tree, the ‘Jawan’ actor asked his assistant to bring some honey, which left everyone on set a bit confused. The actor took some honey and applied it to his face so it could attract flies.
Motwane elaborated further that Shah Rukh’s intention was to attract flies to his face to make the scene realistic and his character’s death surreal. “It was entirely his idea,” Motwane added. Normally, such minute details are part of a director’s role, but it was Shah Rukh’s ingenuity that added a touch of unexpected brilliance to the scene. “His mind is always ticking, finding ways to elevate a moment,” Motwane explained, adding that the actor always makes everyone feel special, and his small acts on set bring huge impacts to the output.
This was not the first time Motwane expressed his admiration for Khan. At the Himalayan Film Festival, the director acknowledged the irreplaceable quality of Shah Rukh’s presence in films. He emphasised that no actor in the industry can replace SRK and his films.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan is now preparing for his next project, ‘King’. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, the film also features his daughter Suhana Khan in key roles. On the other hand, Motwane has been busy with his recent movie, ‘Black Warrant‘.
