Many high-profile celebrities who found homes and built their estates in L.A. also had to rush out and seek shelter amid the raging fire. Leonardo DiCaprio also had to evacuate with his girlfriend and parents, and for his evacuation, he used a private jet. Leonardo is an avid advocate of climate change and is often referred to as a warrior for the environment, and thus, his decision to take a private jet amid the raging fires which could have added to the levels of carbon, didn’t sit well with the netizens.
Leonardo DiCaprio is facing backlash as he bordered the private jet with his partner, model Vittoria Ceretti, father George DiCaprio, and step-mother Peggy Ann Farrar. Tribune reports he got on the aircraft to escape the fires in Los Angeles and was clicked landing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
As aforementioned, his decision has drawn criticism with people questioning his ‘climate warrior’ persona. The social media is packed with messages and posts criticizing Leonardo. “The eco warrior shows his true colors! Never liked him. What a schmuck,” wrote a netizen. Another person posted, “What a f*****g hypocrite,” while another mentioned, “Leonardo CLIMATE CHANGE DiCaprio and Vittoria Ceretti escape LA fires on private jet despite being ‘climate warrior’.”
It is worth noting that Leonardo has been in favor of sustainability through the years. He has reportedly funded $80 million in grants for environmental causes and has often promoted eco-friendly initiatives. So, Leonardo taking a private jet from the US to Mexico in the middle of a climate crisis did not sit well with most on the internet.
