The movie will not be released in Bangladesh due to rising political tensions between the two nations. The film, which is expected to garner significant interest, will unfortunately be unable to access an important South Asian market due to ongoing strained relations.
Focusing on the politically unstable era of India’s 1975 Emergency under Gandhi’s rule, the movie has sparked disputes and heightened geopolitical tensions. By depicting a crucial moment in India’s past, it has generated controversy, particularly in light of the worsening diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh.
According to an Aaj Tak report, a source close to the matter shared “The decision to halt the screening of ‘Emergency’ in Bangladesh is tied to the current strained relations between India and Bangladesh. The ban is less about the content of the film and more about the ongoing political dynamics between the two nations.”
Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ chronicles the life of Indira Gandhi who played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s liberation from Pakistan. There was constant high pressure from the United States to stay out of the conflict, but Indira Gandhi was adamant about her decision. She firmly believed that it would be better for India on an economic level to confront Pakistan directly than to absorb millions of refugees.
A special screening of the movie was held in Nagpur for Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Expressing his support for the movie, the political leader said, “I am watching the film for the first time, and I have witnessed Emergency in the country. The true history of Emergency that Kangana ji has presented in front of the public today is correct. I am fully confident that this film will receive support from the public as well.”
