‘Vaastav: The Reality’, released in 1999, became a success due to the collaboration between Sanjay Dutt and Mahesh Manjrekar. The film is regarded as Indian cinema’s original gangster drama, with Dutt’s role as Raghu achieving cult status. After 26 years, the duo is set to reunite for its sequel.
Sources reveal that Mahesh Manjrekar has come up with an idea that perfectly fits as a sequel to ‘Vaastav’. According to a report by Pinkvilla, the sequel will be a franchise film rather than a direct continuation of the original story. The concept stays true to the world of Vaastav and has already been shared with Sanjay Dutt, who is thrilled and eager to reprise his role as Raghu. Mahesh is currently working on developing the idea into a full screenplay, while Dutt awaits the complete narration with excitement.
Sources indicate that Subhash Kale will produce the upcoming ‘Vaastav’ sequel, with plans to begin filming at the end of 2025. The project is described as a two-hero subject, and once the script is finalised, Manjrekar and his team will seek to cast a younger actor for the parallel lead role. Currently, the project is in its early stages, but discussions for ‘Vaastav 2‘ are actively ongoing.
The source concluded that there will be clarity on casting by mid-2025. Mahesh and his team of writers are presently writing the script and churning it into a packaged high-octane gangster drama with larger-than-life dialogues.
Sanjay Dutt and Mahesh Manjrekar have collaborated on several films, including ‘Vaastav: The Reality’, ‘Kurukshetra’, ‘Hathyar’, ‘Pitaah’, ‘Viruddh’, and ‘Vaah Life Ho Toh Aisi’.
