Action-drama Sky Force, featuring Akshay Kumar and newcomer Veer Pahariya, made an impressive debut at the domestic box office over its opening weekend. Touted as the untold story of India’s first and deadliest airstrike, the film, which was released nationwide on Friday, saw steady growth and capitalised on the Republic Day holiday, amassing an estimated Rs 61.75 crore net in its first three days.
The film opened with Rs 12.25 crore on Friday and nearly doubled its earnings on Saturday, raking in approximately Rs 22 crore. As per early estimates by Sacnilk.com, the Republic Day boost on Sunday propelled the film to Rs 27.50 crore, sealing its successful debut weekend.
In terms of gross earnings, the producers reported collections of Rs 15.30 crore on Friday and Rs 26.30 crore on Saturday, culminating in a two-day total of Rs 42 crore gross.
Going by the current trend, the film is expected to hit the Rs 100 crore mark. It will have a week to rake in the big bucks before it faces competition from another action film, Shahid Kapoor‘s ‘Deva’ which arrives in theatres on Friday, Jan 31.
Co-directed by Sandeep Kelwani and Abhishek Kapur, ‘Sky Force’ marks Veer Pahariya’s acting debut. The film follows the story of IAF officer T. Vijaya (Pahariya), who goes missing during the 1965 India-Pakistan War. Akshay Kumar plays KO Ahuja, Vijaya’s fellow IAF officer, who undertakes a daring mission to bring him back.
The cast also includes Sara Ali Khan and Nimrat Kaur in significant roles, adding depth to the narrative of courage and camaraderie.
