Sonu Nigam recently shared his disappointment about the Padma Awards ignoring some of the greatest singers. The singer addressed the government on Instagram, questioning why legendary singers are overlooked despite their remarkable contributions. He noted that while Mohammad Rafi received the Padma Shri, Kishore Kumar, who inspired artists worldwide, was never honored with the award.
The singer also pointed out the trend of giving awards posthumously, saying, “Awards are being given posthumously too, right?”
Sonu also highlighted that living legends like Alka Yagnik, with her remarkable career, remain unrecognized. He added that Shreya Ghoshal, known for her exceptional talent and consistency over the years, also deserves to be honored.
He expressed frustration over the lack of acknowledgment for iconic voices like Sunidhi Chauhan, whose unique voice has inspired an entire generation, yet remains unrecognized.
Sonu Nigam urged his followers to suggest other deserving artists—singers, actors, and more—who have not received the Padma Awards. In his video caption, he called attention to the issue of unrecognized talent in India, encouraging collective support for these icons.
Meanwhile, Sonu Nigam received the Padma Shri in 2022 from former President Ram Nath Kovind, honouring his remarkable contributions to the music industry.
