Coldplay wrapped up the Indian leg of their Music of the Spheres on a high with 5 gigs in the country. The band even made history by recording the biggest concert with over 1.35 lakh fans in attendance. After the buzz about the show seemed to have fizzled out, a new video doing the rounds online sees two elderly men getting into a heated fistfight at the Ahmedabad gig.
A video that has gone viral online sees the two men throwing punches at each other in the audience while the band performed their hit single ‘Viva La Vida‘. The clip also shows other concertgoers looking in shock while some attempted to break up the fight and separate the men.
A social media user, @tweeshahh, who claimed to have witnessed the fight firsthand, shared insights into what triggered the scuffle. According to her, the altercation began when one of the elderly men confronted two women in the audience for allegedly smoking.
“I was literally beside them, and that uncle had really lost it… He was screaming at two girls for using a cig and kept saying he’d call the police and was pushing them. A few guys stepped in to stop him, and the old man ended up hitting the guy for no reason,” she explained.
As the situation escalated, other attendees intervened, to pull the two men apart. However, in the heat of the moment, the two seemed to be coming at eachother and grabbing t-shirts, while swinging blows at the other.
The unexpected brawl during the band’s song about power and its downfall with references to the French Revolution—led to humorous reactions online. “Coldplay’s Viva La Vida just turned into Viva La Vivaad (Viva La Argument),” one user joked.
The bizarre incident has sparked a range of reactions from amused and shocked fans alike considering that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin continued singing the anthemic track, seemingly unaware of the commotion unfolding in the crowd.
Another quipped, “Coldplay giving background music for this fight.”
Another said, “‘I used to Rule the World’ – Uncle after getting punched straight in the face.’
Still another said, “Cold play ko mat dekho yaha jada maza aa raha h.”
The incident has only added to the growing list of viral moments from Coldplay’s India tour.
