Shilpa Shirodkar recently recalled losing out on starring in Boney Kapoor‘s film, ‘Jungle’. The film was supposed to mark Sanjay Kapoor‘s debut in Bollywood. However, it later got shelved.
Talking to Bollywood Bubble, Shilpa recalled visiting Boney Kapoor’s house in Chembur, where she took her album. Boney Kapoor really liked her, and everyone at the house, including Mona Ji and the kids Arjun and Anshula, were very welcoming. She remembered it being a Sunday, with the family enjoying parathas together. They even did a photoshoot and a look test. However, the film she was considered for never happened. She mentioned how, in the industry, after two big films, if one didn’t work out, another opportunity often didn’t come either.
In the same interview, Shilpa also explained that the film industry had marked her as ‘jinxed’—they believed that any movie she was in would never succeed after its release. However, because Riku Ji and Mithunda were well-connected, they took her photos to Dada and asked him to recommend her if any film opportunity arose. Dada replied that he was working some deals with Ramesh Sippy and that she should go talk to him, promising to help get her a role. That’s how she eventually got an opportunity.
Boney Kapoor had selected Shilpa Shirodkar for his film Jungle, but the project was eventually shelved. She also mentioned being criticized for being “too fat” for the popular song Chaiyya Chaiyya. Boney planned to introduce Sanjay Kapoor in Jungle, and while Shilpa was initially chosen, director Shekhar Kapur did not want her in the film. After losing out on roles in Souten Ki Beti and Jungle, the industry began labeling her as a ‘jinx.’
