The re-release of the 2016 romantic drama ‘Sanam Teri Kasam‘ has taken the box office by storm, surpassing its original domestic collection within just two days. The film, which reopened in cinemas on 7 February, has not only outperformed its initial run but also overshadowed new releases such as ‘Loveyapa’ and Badass Ravikumar.
According to trade reports from the Sacnilk, ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ collected Rs 4.25 crore on its first day—more than three times its original opening-day earnings. On its second day, the film saw a 15% increase, adding approximately Rs 5.25 crore, bringing the total to Rs 9.50 crore and surpassing its original 2016 domestic lifetime collection of Rs 9.1 crore in just 48 hours.
Directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, the film stars Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane in a heartbreaking love story inspired by the Shiva-Sati legend and Erich Segal’s novel Love Story. Despite its emotional appeal, the film was a commercial failure upon its initial release, grossing below expectations against a budget of Rs 14 crore.
However, its cult following and nostalgia factor appear to have played a crucial role in its re-release success. The film’s box office performance has also surpassed that of newer releases such as ‘Loveyapa’ (Rs 2.35 crore) and Badass Ravikumar (Rs 3.15 crore), reaffirming its enduring popularity.
