Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World has finally hit theatres, and fans of the superhero franchise have some rather good things to say. Coming in as a contrast to the harsh critic’s reviews and lukewarm reception, fans took to Twitter to share their largely positive reactions. Many praised Anthony Mackie’s performance as Captain America, calling his portrayal a worthy continuation of the legacy left by Steve Rogers.
Starring Mackie in his first cinematic outing as Captain America, the film also features Hollywood veteran Harrison Ford alongside Giancarlo Esposito and Danny Ramirez. Although Brave New World has received mixed reviews from critics—continuing a trend of recent Marvel films struggling to impress—audiences who attended early screenings were pleasantly surprised by its engaging action and nostalgic storytelling. Many described the film as a ‘fun’ superhero adventure, despite some flaws in execution.
Several fans compared the film’s style to classic action thrillers, with one user writing, “While the story is straightforward, it’s a throwback to the 80s action thriller with lots of twists and never fails to entertain. Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford are great & Danny Ramirez is a blast as the new Falcon.”
Another praised Mackie’s performance as the new Cap, saying, “#CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld proves that Sam Wilson can lead a #CaptainAmerica movie. The writing & acting is very strong as a political thriller mixed with superhero elements. While not perfect, it was very engaging & entertaining.”
Harrison Ford’s portrayal of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross also drew praise. The actor, at 82, marked his superhero entry with his role as the Red Hulk. “Brave New World was fun. I liked Anthony Mackie, but Harrison Ford was the best part of the film. Tough not to judge it on the same scale as its predecessors when they keep reminding you about them. Some annoying dialogue and bad green screens, but still worth the watch.”
Brave New World brings back the political thriller essence that made Captain America: The Winter Soldier one of the most critically acclaimed entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Much like its predecessor, this film intertwines superhero action with espionage, government conspiracies, and global stakes.
In Brave New World, Mackie’s Sam Wilson takes on the mantle of Captain America, navigating a world filled with political tensions, secret agendas, and power struggles—elements reminiscent of Chris Evans‘ Steve Rogers’ and Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow’s battle against HYDRA’s infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D. in The Winter Soldier. The film explores themes of trust, loyalty, and the consequences of unchecked power, setting the stage for a grounded yet action-packed narrative. Interestingly, this film also marked Mackie’s introduction into the MCU as Falcon.
However, not all responses were glowing. Some fans felt the film struggled to reach the heights of previous Captain America movies.
“#BraveNewWorld isn’t as bad as I feared it would be (extremely low expectations), but it’s not a good movie. Everything is over-explained, very little actually shown. This feels custom-made for Disney+ and isn’t the remedy we needed for Marvel Studio films.”
Another fan remarked that while the movie had strong moments, it felt overshadowed by a different Marvel character, “#CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld was just okay. Great action & political angle, but the Red Hulk felt like clickbait. Sam proved himself as Cap, but it felt more like a #Hulk movie without Hulk.”
The film is poised to score a huge $200 million opening at the worldwide box office this weekend.
