Pankaj Tripathi recently commented on the ongoing controversy involving Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia, stating that their experiences serve as a lesson for many. He emphasised the influence of the internet, noting that in today’s world, everyone has an opinion and can be easily convinced by others.
During The Indian Express event, Tripathi discussed the impact of the internet on fame, noting that many people gain popularity quickly but lack sensibility and intelligence. He emphasized the importance of understanding societal values and cultural context, stating that while fame can be transient, the responsibility that comes with influence should be taken seriously.
The actor discussed the issue of censorship in the digital era, stating that the absence of clear guidelines does not excuse irresponsible speech in the name of entertainment. He remarked, “It’s acceptable to have fun with nonsense, but taking pride in it is not. While satire may appear nonsensical, it often carries significant meaning beneath the surface.”
Tripathi acknowledged the allure of name, fame, and social media following but emphasised that these feelings are transient. He cautioned against placing too much importance on virality, comparing it to a viral illness that fades quickly. He stressed that those with influential voices must handle their responsibility with care, considering the impact of their words on others.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Cyber, a cyber and information security division, will again summon Ranveer Allahbadia to record his statement as he did not appear before the agency in the case registered against him concerning a YouTube show, an official said on Thursday. The agency is investigating the case registered against Allahbadia and others after the YouTuber triggered a massive uproar with his objectionable remarks on comic Samay Raina’s web show ‘India’s Got Latent’.
Allahbadia had been summoned to record his statement but did not turn up. The Maharashtra Cyber will summon him soon for one more time, the official said. The official said Maharashtra Cyber has so far summoned at least 50 persons to record their statements in connection with the case. They include those who participated in the show, he said.
The Mumbai police, which have also initiated an inquiry concerning the controversy, have asked Raina to appear before them on February 17.
