After tons of award shows, there has never been a consensus about the most deserving film to receive the awards. With such strong contenders, the Hollywood stars are ready to triumph in the award ceremony BAFTAs 2025 on Sunday, where ‘The Brutalist,’ ‘Conclave,’ and ‘Anora,’ the season’s favourite after the film, won at the Cannes Film Festival, are likely to compete in the Best Film category.
‘The Brutalist’ is a film about a Hungarian Jewish architect who relocates to the US following World War 2, and a prominent industrialist recognizes his talent, starring Adrian Brody.
‘Conclave’ is a film about a group of cunning cardinals who look after the secretive events gathered in Rome to find a new Pope. However, one of them finds out about a certain secret that could destroy the entire foundation.
‘Anora’ is a film about an exotic dancer who falls in love with a Russian Oligarch’s son after meeting at a club, but the relationship is threatened by his family. The film was also recognized with the Critics Choice Award, as well as by the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and Producers Guild of America (PGA). If the film manages to bag a BAFTA, it would be a clear indicator of which film will be winning at the Academy Awards as well, which is going to be held on March 2, 2025.
In an interview with Reuters, Digital Spy movies editor Ian Sandwell expressed, “This year, it’s a bit more open … It felt like for a while that ‘The Brutalist’ was the frontrunner, but now it seems like ‘Anora’ is coming out there as well,” He added, “So it could be them, or there could be a local surprise with ‘Conclave.’”
Other than these, ‘A Complete Unknown,’ a Bob Dylan biopic, which was recently screened at the Berlin Film Festival, as well as ‘Emilia Pere,’ a film about a Mexican lawyer who transitions to a woman after receiving an unusual job, are the films who received nominations for the best film at BAFTAs.
