We are talking about Vicky Kaushal’s latest epic saga – ‘Chhaava’ which made it to the theatres this Friday. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the movie is based on the book ‘Chhaava’ which chronicles the courageous tale of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
Vicky Kaushal takes on the titular role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the movie, while Rashmika Mandanna plays the character of his wife Maharani Yesubai. In addition to that, Bollywood’s versatile star Akshaye Khanna essays the role of the formidable Mughal Emperor
Aurangzeb. Further, Divya Dutta and Ashutosh Rana play crucial parts in the movie.
‘Chaava’ OTT release
Following its theatrical showcase, Chhaava is scheduled for an OTT release on Netflix, according to a report by OTTPlay.
Coming to the OTT release date, it so far hasn’t been officially announced. However, if we look at the OTT release pattern, a film transitions from theater to digital platforms is seen within 45 to 60 days.
Here are a few examples of the same, ‘Pushpa 2,’ which was released in the theatres on December 5, 2024, was made available for online streaming on Netflix on January 30, 2025 (56 days after the big-screen debut). Another example is Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Stree 2’ (theatrical release August 15, 2024), which arrived for rental on Prime Videos on September 27, followed by free streaming for subscribers on October 10.
‘Chhaava’ box office performance
Made on an estimated cost of Rs 130 crore, ‘Chhaava’ is creating new records at the box office. With an opening of Rs.31 crore, the film has not only become Vicky Kaushal’s biggest opener but the biggest Bollywood opener of 2025 so far. According to the Sacnilk report, the movie has crossed Rs.65 crore in two days, and by the end of its debut weekend, it has the potential to make Rs. 100 crore.
