Bhumi Pednekar has been charting out her career like no one else. Where on one hand, she does films like Afwah, Bhakshak and Sonchiriya, she balances it with films like Pati Patni Aur Woh, Badhai Do, Bala and soon to release Mere Husband Ki Biwi. But when one pays attention closely, there is a common theme in a bunch of her films, and that is with her playing the wife’s role . In her latest film with Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh, she plays an ex-wife who is keen on getting her husband back.
When asked about the wife angle in an exclusive interview with ETimes, the actress who made her debut with Dum Laga Ke Haisha said, ‘Meri shaadi toh hui nahi hai par ab main itni experienced ho gaye ho after playing different shades of wife throughout my career , that whenever I get married and I have a nok jhok with my husband I know exactly how to handle it (laughs), as I have gone through the whole spectrum of wife roles throughout my career! (laughs)
“ A man woman relationship is so complex , there are so many shades there. There is a lot of happiness and sadness and I love to play such complex roles . In Pati Patni aur Woh…Vedika was this strong girl who will never stop trying, and in Prableen ( Mere Husband Ki Biwi) also you see that shade, the way Mudassar Aziz sir writes his female characters , they are so empowered , they have so much agency and then there is comedy and actresses don’t get a chance to do comedy, and I have gotten chance to do front footed comedy only in his universe. So for me even in the next four films he gives me a different shade of wife i’ll happily do it.”
Listening to Bhumi, Mudassar added , “ Like how on the internet there in National Crush, Bhumi Pednekar should be announced as National Patni ( laughs).”
